JPEG-2000
introduces infrastructure savings, visually lossless
compression to contribution and primary distribution
applications where compression had previously not been
acceptable. The groundbreaking technology also enables
unparalleled flexibility and enhanced image quality in
content production and broadcast distribution applications.
With JPEG
2000 compression at the contribution level, downstream
distribution quality encoders with low bit rate outputs are
now fed with the highest quality video signals for increased
compression efficiency. The result is increased efficiency
throughout the entire video transmission and distribution
chain.
This
presentation will address the basic structure of the
JPEG2000 video contribution codec, how it is different from
MPEG compression and the capabilities of JPEG2000.
Applications and deployments cases will also be discussed. |

Multi-vendor Network Management Platform: Regaining
Operational Freedom to Boost Operations. In an ever more
competitive market, with ever more demanding customers,
there’s simply no room for operational compromises. Over the
course of the last decade, multi-vendor network management
technology has leaped ahead, and an increasing number of
successful deployments have demonstrated how this technology
can significantly reduce operational expenses, while
increasing service quality and availability. What’s the
definition of a genuine multi-vendor network management
platform?
1) Vendor Independent Supplier
2)
Multi-Vendor Technology (unconditional and guaranteed
interface with any device)
3) Open
Architecture (interface drivers shall be open format)
It’s a
general consensus amongst Service Providers that
multi-vendor network management is the way forward.
Note: This paper is of equal
interest to Broadcasters, Cable Operators and Telco
Operators. |

Optimizing Satellite Transmission with DVB-S2
Presented by Waylon Sun, Manager, Regional Support Center Americas
www.newtec.eu |
 |
|
Satellite
bandwidth usage efficiency is critical for profitability.
This is of great interest with the advent of HDTV broadcast
and News Gathering. The new DVB-S2 standard represents a
quantum leap in term of bandwidth efficiency compared to the
former DVB-S and DVB-DSNG standards. This drastic
improvement is due not only to a new error correction code
called Low Density Parity Check (LDPC), but also to new
modulation schemes and new modes of operations called
Variable Coding and Modulation (VCM) and Adaptive Coding and
Modulation (ACM). This paper will address the
characteristics and advantages of DVB-S2: channel
protection, dynamic link adaptation, error protection,
increased capacity, modulation for service components and
support for a variety of input data formats. |

ATSC M/H and Single Frequency Networks
Joint presentation:
10h00-10h30 Presented by George Mancuso, International Sales – Triveni Digital www.trivenidigital.com
The A/153 standard has been
designed to use IP transport inside ATSC for both streaming
and file content delivery for Mobile DTV. The protocol stack
will be briefly explained. The implementation of ATSC M/H
requires the integration of mobile DTV metadata management
and generation to enable transmission of services to ATSC
receivers. This presentation will also discuss a strategy to
unify metadata generation for both ATSC fixed and ATSC M/H
services.

 |
| |
|
10h30-12h00 Presented by Rich Schwartz, VP of Product Management – Axcera, LLC www.axcera.com Now that the ATSC M/H (mobile/handheld) standard has been approved, broadcasters are understandably enthusiastic about the new business opportunities that it will provide. In order to take full advantage of this important new technology, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the options and choices for converting transmission facilities to incorporate M/H. This paper will seek to provide that understanding, covering such areas as exciter conversion, multiplexing, single frequency networks (SFNs), power level and coverage considerations for mobile vs. fixed reception and all aspects of the transmission chain that are affected. While it is anticipated that most broadcasters will initially convert their existing single transmitter for dual service (fixed and M/H), the different coverage considerations for mobility and reception by a portable receiver may soon encourage the development of a network with multiple transmitters. The paper will discuss this migration, and concepts to implement initially, while planning ahead for a multi-transmitter network. Overall, the paper will cover the major technical issues to consider now and in the future for ATSC M/H conversion. |

Presented by Ian
Caldwell,
Corporate Sales,
Ward-Beck
www.ward-beck.com |
 |
For many years the film industry has used
multi-channel audio (5.1 or 7.1) as a standard.
Increasingly, the broadcast television industry has started
to use multi-channel audio to give home viewers a more
cinematic effect. The challenge that faces the
post-production and broadcast industry is how to accurately
monitor and process up to 16 channels of embedded digital
audio that may also be compressed into Dolby E/AC3.
This seminar will go over tools used to monitor multiple
embedded audio tracks in a HD/SD SDI signal (or discrete
audio tracks) as well as how to correct level errors,
channels swapped or shuffled and incorrect or corrupt audio
tracks. |
